Real Madrid record a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga at a match played at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium.

Toni Kroos opened the scoring in the match before Ander Capa grabbed the equalizer but Karim Benzema scored a brace to seal all three points for the defending champions.

Athletic were down to ten men after just 13 minutes as Raul Garcia was both twice within the space of five minutes.

Zinedine Zidane's side were on the backdrop of two consecutive wins, one against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Champions League and the other over Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Despite the shaky start from the back, Los Blancos settled into the game and created several chances in the first half.

Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior had the best chances and should have scored but they missed their respective opportunities on goal.

But just before half time, there was nothing the Athletic Bilbao keeper could do to stop Kroos' first-time shot that went into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Bilbao came back stronger in the early exchanges of the second half and were rewarded with a goal as Ander Capa scored from his weaker left-foot on his second attempt to make it 1-1.

But Real got their noses back in front in the 74th minute as Benzema was left free in the box to head home from a Dani Carvajal's brilliant cross to make it 2-1.

Madrid were not finished yet as Benzema was involved in a counter-attack in the 90th minute and got the final touch from Luka Modric to make it 3-1.

Los Merengues held on for the 3-1 win and keep up the pace with Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.
