35% female participation in politics affirmative in Kogi, women, youths say

Women and youths in Kogi state have commended Governor Yahaya Bello over the level of inclusivity in his administration.

The commendation given to the governor by the Women Time Group followed the inauguration of 21 Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen and female vice chairwomen across the 21 local government areas of Kogi state.

The women and youths said the election and inauguration of the women by the governor is a major victory attained to bridge the age-long gap existing between the Nigerian youth and government at all levels in Nigeria.

The convener of the women group, Audu Doris, said among those elected are female councillors who would be represented various wards in the just concluded local government elections in Kogi state.

According to Doris, the singular act has made the 35% female participation in politics affirmative in Kogi state under the leadership of Governor Bello.

She said the governor has become a national example for all other states in the country to emulate in encouraging gender equality in the nation's polity.

Also, in his address, the National Youth Council of Nigeria led by its national president, Sokubo Sara-Igbe Sokubo, said the governor has showcased an unimaginable leadership.

Sokubo in a statement seen by Legit.ng described the election as unprecedented and a gesture extended to the local government coordinators in the state.

He said the governor in addition to his interest in women empowerment and participation in politics has ensured that the physically disabled Kogi indigenes also have a place in the state.

Sokubo said these can also be seen in the governor's total support for a physically challenged Kogi youth who became councillor in his ward at Okene local government of the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Bello had called for the inclusion of women in politics across Nigeria.

The governor said government at levels need to give women a sense of belonging by allowing them to actively participate in politics.

He also said that Kogi state government under his has leadership remained a practical example in gender balance and equity.

In other news, the governor also said that he has been under pressure to run for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to the governor's commissioner for information and communication, Kaingsley Fanwo, many people have been on Governor Yahaya Bello's neck to contest for president in 2023.
