Two House of Reps members defect to APC

- Another round of defections has been reported in the House of Representatives

The number of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the House of Representatives has increased after two legislators defected to the party.

According to Premium Times, one of the defectors from Kano state, Datti Yako dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The other, Danjuma Shittu from Taraba state, left the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Both legislators in separate letters informed the leadership of the House that crisis in the state chapters of their respective parties prompted their defection.

However, the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu faulted the decision of the lawmakers as unconstitutional. He also asked the speaker to declare their seats vacant.

Similarly, Toby Okechukwu, the deputy minority leader, argued that the only crisis that warrants any lawmaker to change parties is that of the national level.

Meanwhile, the PDP has instituted a court action against Yakubu Dogara for defecting to the APC.

Dogara, who represents Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro federal constituency of Bauchi state, had won his seat on the PDP platform before he defected.

The party asked the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to sack Dogara for leaving the PDP for no justified reason.

In another news, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said he cannot defect to the ruling APC or any other political party.

The Rivers state governor made this known in a statement sighted by Legit.ng on Friday, December 11.

In the statement which was released by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, Wike said since he lacks the ability to defect to the APC or another political party, he will continue to do what he can to ensure the survival of the PDP.
