Nyesom Wike, the Rivers state governor, has made clarifications over his criticisms of the National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Punch reports that the governor said his statement should not be misunderstood to mean that there is an irredeemable crisis in the party.

Legit.ng gathered that Wike emphasised that since he is not interested in defecting to another political party, particularly, the All Progressives Congress (APC), he would continue to speak out against perceived abnormalities in the PDP to ensure it does not die.

He made the clarification when friends and political associates paid him a surprise visit, to felicitate with him and his wife, Justice Suzzette Eberechi Nyesom-Wike on his birthday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on the night of Sunday, December 13.

In a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, the governor said as a founding member of the PDP, he would continue to speak against whatever is militating against the progress of the party, irrespective of who is in charge of the NWC.

He further stated that he had experienced several persecutions in his political journey, adding that he could not imagine if any other governor had been fought like him and survived.

The governor said he would continue to stand on the path of truth to defend the interest of the state, saying that anyone who is opposed to the interest of Rivers state would never be considered a friend by him.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Wike berated the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for allegedly deepening the crisis in the party.

It was reported that Wike specifically accused the NWC of causing disunity among PDP governors, a development which he said may jeopardise the opposition party’s prospect of taking over the presidency in 2023.
