Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has stated that the people of the southeast stand a chance of producing the next president of Nigeria if they unite.
According to Vanguard, the governor advised Igbos to effectively begin to plan how to win the 2023 presidency.
He was reported to have made the statement at a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano local council area of the state.
The governor said:
“Ideas rule the world. We (Ndigbo) must all come together now and begin to effectively plan to win. The only war that succeeds now, is diplomacy."
Uzodinma said that a president can emerge from the region if the people of the zone surmount the challenges facing them.
He pointed out that it will take very courageous and bold action on the part of politicians from the region to achieve their presidential ambition.
Meanwhile, as the debate on which zone to produce President Muhammadu Buhari's successor in 2023 heats up, a presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, has advised the people of the southeast to play good politics if they truly want to get the ultimate office in the country.
Adesina made this known on Friday, December 11, in an article titled, ‘Dave Umahi’s Heart of Lion.
He said the Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi, has the capability to contest for president in the 2023 elections.
In another news, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential candidate has spoken against the idea of zoning the presidency to any region of the country.
Hashim who contested the 2019 presidential election under the People's Trust party in a statement in Abuja said power rotation is counterproductive, The Nation reported.
He stated that what Nigerians should be aiming for is a good president from any region who is capable of promoting socio-economic development.
