COVID-19: Sanwo-Olu's response to treatment is positive, says Abayomi

A few days after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu contracted COVID-19, an important update about he is fairing has been released by the Lagos state health ministry.

According to a tweet by the commissioner for health in Lagos, Akin Abayomi, Governor Sanwo-Olu is responding well to treatment.

Abayomi stated that the governor is getting adequate medical attention in self-isolation at his official residence.

The commissioner added that Sanwo-Olu is in high spirit and full of gratitude for prayers on his behalf from well-meaning Lagosians.

Abayomi's message on Twitter read:

This update is in line with Abayomi's earlier promise that he will keep Lagosians abreast of the governor's health as he recovers from the deadly pandemic.

Earlier, the governor went into self-isolation after one of his close aides tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, December 10.

Legit.ng reported that this was revealed in a statement released by Abayomi on Friday, December 11.

He said the governor and other members of his team would be tested but would remain in isolation until the results of the tests were available.

Abayomi also noted Governor Sanwo-Olu had taken the COVID-19 test at least three times since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus.

The commissioner later confirmed Sanwo-Olu’s COVID-19 positive status via Twitter on Saturday, December 12.

He said a test conducted on the governor on Friday, December 11, indicated that the governor was infected with the disease.
