Atiku tells FG to declare state of emergency in states ravaged by insecurity

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has advised the Buhari administration to declare a state of emergency in states overwhelmed by banditry and terrorism.

Atiku gave the advice in a statement on Saturday, December 12, when speaking about the abduction of a large number of students at the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state.

He said the measure would make it possible for an offensive and decisive war on terror and insecurity.

Atiku said:

The rationale is quite simple: We cannot win the war on terror by continuing with the same strategies we have deployed over the last five years. That they have not worked is very glaring, with the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara incidence being the latest in a long line of proofs."

He called for the suspension of the boarding school system in all volatile areas until security improves.

The ex-vice president sympathised with the parents of the abducted children and prayed for their safe return.

The politician urged security agencies to rescue the missing students. He however advocated for a proactive approach to security instead of a reactive approach.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the army and the police to go after the bandits who attacked and abducted students from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu on Saturday, December 12.

The statement noted that Buhari charged the security forces to ensure that no student is missing or harmed.

In another news, all boarding secondary schools in the Katsina state have been closed following the abduction of students by gunmen in Kankara local government area of the state.
