Governor Sanwo-Olu tests positive for COVID-19

The governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Akin Abayomi, the Lagos commissioner for health confirmed Sanwo-Olu’s COVID-19 positive status via Twitter on Saturday, December 12.

He said a test conducted on the governor on Friday, December 11, indicated that the governor was infected with the disease.

Abayomi stated that the Sanwo-Olu is experiencing a mild case of the disease and is currently being treated at home by a medical team.

The commisioner said the governor is responding to treatment and expressed the confidence that he will recover soon.

Meanwhile, the federal government has raised the fears that Nigeria could be entering a second wave in the spread of the COVID-19 virus following the rise in the number of cases.

Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, said he had directed isolation and treatment centres in the country to prepare for reopening over the new development, The Cable reported.

The minister speaking at a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday, December 10, disclosed that Nigeria may be on the verge of a second wave judging by the increase in the number of confirmed cases in the last few days.

In another news, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has said that the final report on the coronavirus pandemic will be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari in two weeks.
