In his quest to fortify the Barcelona midfield, manager Ronald Koeman is reportedly desperate in signing Liverpool midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum.
The tactician is prepared to reunite with the former Newcastle United man who is already in the final months of his contract with the Reds.
Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to the Catalan club for some time now, but he has been a key player under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are looking to tying the player down with an improved contract in order to tempt him to remain with the Anfield outfit.
Reports from Spain claim that Koeman believes the player will bring in new ideas to the Barcelona midfield as the tactician had worked with the midfielder while in charge of the Netherlands.
The player can entertain negotiations from other clubs as soon as the January transfer window opens, but it might be difficult for Barca as they are still trying to cope financially as they were severely hit by the pandemic financially.
Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay continue to be linked with moves to Barcelona as well, but Koeman is understood to have earmarked Wijnaldum as his priority target.
Meanwhile, reports from the Etihad Stadium have it that the Citizens are ready to go head-to-head with their bitter rivals Manchester United who have been on the trail of the 20-year-old Erling Haaland.
Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to the Old Trafford side for months now with the Red Devils failing to land the striker last summer.
And having recently renewed his contact for a further two years, Pep Guardiola is determined to bolster his squad and he had named Haaland as one of his targets.
However, Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Jack Grealish as several club are jostling for the signature of the Aston Villa captain.
It was gathered that the Villa midfielder has attracted top chiefs at the Old Trafford who want their squad to be bolstered in January.
