Policeman kills tricycle rider over N100 bribe

A riot at the Rukpoku area of Port Harcourt ensued on Thursday, December 10, after a policeman hot dead a tricycle driver over his refusal to give N100 bribe.
Vanguard reports that the tragedy which took place along the famous Airport road led to serious unrest and of course gridlock.
The traffic jam was caused majorly by colleagues of the slain tricycle rider (keke) and other aggrieved youths who mounted burnfires on the expressway.

Meanwhile, the Oyigbo police station in Rivers was on Wednesday, October 21, set ablaze by some unknown arsonists in the state.
Not less than two policemen lost their lives in the strike by the thugs who attacked the station along the Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway and set ablaze an armoured vehicle which had an officer inside.
The attackers also shot dead another policeman while his colleagues took to their heels in the early hours of Wednesday.
The sad incident was confirmed by the police spokesman in the command, Nnamdi Omoni, who told journalists that the commissioner, Joseph Mukan, will be at the scene for preliminary investigation.

Moreover, an eyewitness who preferred anonymity told newsmen:
“It started in the midnight of Tuesday when we started hearing gunshots. Bullets were flying from all directions and we took cover because my house was very close to the police station.
“I overheard them shouting that they were on a revenge mission over the killing of innocent protesters in Lagos. They set the armoured police tank in front of the police station with the driver inside ablaze.
“They shut their way into the station before setting the police station ablaze. One other police officer was also shot dead. We did not sleep at night."
