Nigerian lady says there should be no stigma attached to repeating classes in school

A young lady known simply as @Alexxsiaa on Twitter recently took to the platform to complain about the stigma attached to a person who repeated an academic year.

According to the young lady, the shame and condemnation attached to students who repeated classes needed to be removed.

In many African countries, getting an education is seen as an important milestone in the lives of children and many of them do this with their peers.

However, it is regarded as a thing of shame when a person has to repeat a class and their peers have to go ahead without them. Many parents do not take this lightly and resort to reminding the student at every opportunity while shaming them for it.

Explaining further in her tweet, Alexxsiaa said she found it strange that family members stigmatised a person who needed to repeat a class to get better academically.

In her words:

“We need to remove the stigma around repeating academic years...if a person needs to repeat a year to be more academically stable it’s weird to me that others and family make them feel bad for that”
