President Buhari appoints Abubakar Fikpo as acting DG of NDE

- The federal government has appointed Abubakar Fikpo as the acting director-general of NDE

Abubakar Fikpo has been appointed as the acting director-general of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), to replace Nasiru Argungu who was sacked from the position on Monday, December 7.

Daily Nigerian reports that Fikpo's appointment was contained in a letter signed by the minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, on Wednesday, December 9.

Legit.ng gathered that the appointment titled, “Appointment as acting director-general of National Directorate of Employment” was addressed to Fikpo.

“Following the directive of Mr President relieving Nasiru Argungu as the director-general of the NDE, you are hereby directed to take over as the acting director-general of the Agency pending ratification by Mr President. This is to ensure there is no vacuum in the administration of the Agency."

The minister, who oversees the agency, said the directive takes effect from Monday, December 7.

He enjoined the acting director-general to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the agency, while also ensuring a proper handing over to him by Nasiru Argungu of all government property in his possession.

Legit.ng had previously reported that President Buhari relieved Argungu of his post as the director-general of the NDE with a directive to the minister of state for labour and employment to propose an acting director-general from among the senior directors of NDE based on competence and seniority.

It was reported that the news comes days after President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as the new director-general of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

In another report, Professor Mahmood Yakubu was sworn in for a second term as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Yakubu said elections in the country are getting better. He added that recent ones have shown that future polls would be better than the previous ones.

The Senate had on Tuesday, December 1, confirmed his appointment as chairman of the electoral body, a development the former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) described as a “privilege."
