Election fraud: Nigerian professor Ignatius Uduk remanded in prison
- A Nigerian professor, Ignatius Uduk, will be spending at least five days in prison over alleged voter fraud

Professor Ignatius Uduk has been ordered to be remanded in prison by the high court in Akwa Ibom state over his alleged involvement in election fraud during the 2019 general elections in the state.
According to a report by Premium Times, the professor will spend five days in prison till Monday, December 14, when the court will rule on his bail application.
Uduk, a professor at the University of Uyo, was arraigned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a three-count charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges just as his lawyer, Samuel Ndah, urged the court to grant him bail on personal recognition.
Lawyers to INEC, however, opposed the bail application, arguing that he had deliberately refused to appear before the court until a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the court, presided by Justice A.E Archibong, issued a warrant of arrest on the professor in November after he repeatedly failed to appear for the commencement of his trial.
In other news, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has been sworn in for a second term as the chairman of the nation's electoral body, INEC.
Legit.ng reports that Yakubu said elections in the country are getting better. He added that recent ones have shown that future polls would be better than the previous ones.
He said this after the swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Council Chambers, State House in Abuja.
