Deregister APC, PDP reacts to dissolution of ruling party's organs

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the dissolution of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s structures by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

The opposition party in a statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially deregister Nigeria's ruling party as APC no longer has an operational structure required by law.

According to Ologbondiyan, the weight of failure, as well as corruption, economic recession, violence, killings, and hardship overburdened APC forcing the party to exit itself from the nation’s atmosphere.

He went on to urge the electoral commission to declare the seats of lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC vacant.

The PDP spokesperson called on Nigerians to mark the date Tuesday, December 8, 2020, as “liberation day” following APC's exit from Nigeria's political firmament. recalls that the NEC of the ruling APC held an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the presidential aide on new media, Bashir Ahmad, President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC governors attended the meeting physically.

Ahmad added that other principal members of the ruling party's NEC are attending virtually.

In a related development, President Buhari has urged the leaders of the party to respect the decision of the extension of Governor Mai Buni-led caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee of the APC by six months.
