Moses Cleopas: PDP’s candidate wins Bayelsa Central senatorial by-election

Moses Cleopas, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the December 5 Bayelsa Central senatorial by-election, has been declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Premium Times reports that INEC's Returning Officer, Emmanuel Akpan, announced that Cleopas polled 110,019 votes to defeat his closest rival for the crucial senatorial seat, Abel Efemowei of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 18,947 votes.

Similarly, the immediate past governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson, has won the senatorial by-election in Bayelsa West.

The PDP candidate won with a landslide as he polled 115,257 against Peremobowei Ebebi of the APC who had 17,500 votes.

Dickson had a major breakthrough in Sagbama local government area with 109,420 registered voters.

However, the PDP was unable to secure victory in the Lagos East senatorial election as the APC retained the seat.

The APC candidate in the poll, Tokunbo Abiru, was declared the winner of the exercise as he claimed a landslide victory over his opponent, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the PDP in all the local government areas: Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Shomolu, and Ikorodu.

The APC candidate polled 89,204 votes while his PDP rival was able to secure only 11,257 votes, leaving a very massive margin of 77,947 votes.

Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos said residents of the state still have confidence in the ruling APC.

The governor said this in a congratulatory statement he released following the victory of the party in the senatorial by-election.

Sanwo-Olu said he was elated as a result of the victory recorded by the party with wide margins.
