Lionel Messi, who is the captain of Spanish giants, Barcelona, has been fined €600 which is around N275,000 for lifting his jersey to pay tribute to his fellow countryman Diego Maradona.

It is a week now that the world football fraternities lost one of the finest players to have played the game as Diego Maradona died in his house in Argentina.

Diego Maradona was reported to have suffered a heart attack and efforts to revive him were futile as his death remains a big loss for all football lovers around the world.

On Sunday, November 29, Barcelona were impressive against Osasuna in which Lionel Messi got a goal in the Spanish La Liga encounter played at Camp Nou.

After scoring his goal, the Argentine footballer decided to honour Diego by taking off his jersey to reveal a Newell's Old Boys shirt beneath belonging to Maradona.

It was a great emotional moment for Lionel Messi and even his teammates at Barcelona who also joined him to honour the late football legend.

However, the Spanish Football Federation have frowned at what Lionel Messi did which was against their laid down rules and regulations.

According to the report on ESPN, they accepted Messi's gesture was a tribute, but Article 93 of the disciplinary code states that a player should be punished for removing their shirt.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Diego Maradona was prescribed with some deadly cocktail tablets, meant for him to treat bipolar disorder and this may have contributed to the heart attack he had before passing on.

Football fraternities in the world are still wondering what could have caused the heart attack the Argentine football great had before he died last week.

Police are said to be currently carrying out serious investigation on what really happened before the death of Diego Maradona.

Doctor who treated him before his death had his house raided by policemen who went there to interrogate the medical professional.

Maradona was said to be using Quetiapine, used to treat mood disorders including depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, and Gabapentin, used for nerve pain caused by illnesses.
