NGF meeting: Security to top governors’ discussion

Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, spokesman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has said the priority of its next meeting will focus on security.

The governors of the 36 states are to meet for the 22nd NGF teleconference scheduled to hold tomorrow, Wednesday, December 2.

Bello-Barkindo said part of the agenda is the issue of CACOVID palliatives with updates on its current status in all the states following the looting that characterised the recent EndSARS protest, The Nation reports.

According to the NGF spokesperson, the governors will be seeking to develop a new national security architecture which will ensure the safety of lives and property nationwide.

He said:

“As part of the effort, beginning at the sub-national level, the forum will be receiving zonal updates on SARS and internal security at its Wednesday meeting."

NGF reacts to the killing of farmers in Borno state

Legit.ng reported earlier that NGF expressed grief over the killing of 43 farmers in Borno state on Saturday, November 28.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 29, by the chairman of the forum, Governor Kayode John Fayemi of Ekiti state, the atrocity, which was carried out by suspected weapon-wielding Boko Haram insurgents, was described as "wicked, unwarranted, and morally reprehensible."

Fayemi who noted with distress that the killing "raises serious questions on the general security situation" questioned if there is an adequate arrangement to protect the lives of Nigerians living in vulnerable communities.

According to the governor, the consistent attacks by Boko Haram terrorists usually come whenever the situation seems to be under control, calling for all hands to be on deck in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Military gets marching order

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari gave a marching order to the military to take the fight to the Boko Haram insurgents, following the killings of farmers in Borno.

He said there is nothing more important than ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians.
