Chelsea look like the most likely team to sign veteran Bayern Munich defender, David Alaba, when he becomes a free agent, reports claim.

Alaba who can play as a centre-back or a left-back defender will not sign a new deal with the Bundesliga giants after the offer of a new contract was taken off the table.

The Austrian's contract at the Allianz Arena is set to expire at the end of the season with Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also in position to sign the defender.

It is understood that Chelsea want to sign a pre-contract with the 28-year-old in January to secure a move in the summer.

Spanish news media outlet AS claims the Blues will send a representative to Alaba's agent during the January window to persuade him to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Alaba has nine league titles and two Champions League trophies and would become a perfect blend with Frank Lampard's youthful squad.

Alaba's new contract talks with Bayern broke down after the Bavarians claim there was a lack of movement in the decision-making process.

Bayern chief Herbert Hainer has stated that an offer was 'no longer' on the table after a 'very good' figure was deemed 'unsatisfactory' by the player's agent.

It is suggested that Alaba's team wanted an £18million fee but Bayern did not accept as former president Uli Hoeness said:

"[Alaba] has a greedy piranha for an agent. His father, whom I like a lot, is letting himself be influenced by him very much."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Lionel Messi's destination next summer has taken a new twist as Chelsea have declared their interest in signing the Argentine forward, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

Things will not come easy for the London club as they will be battling Manchester city who have all the odds favouring them to land the Barcelona captain.

Balague said on his YouTube channel that the Blues owned by billionaire businessman Roman Abramovic are now in the equation for the 33-year-old.
