Diego Maradona was left with almost nothing in his bank account, according to Argentine journalist Luis Ventura.

The football icon lavished his money on his excessive lifestyle and had some of it stolen by people who took advantage of him, reports in Italy claim.

The 1986 World Cup hero had huge endorsements with Puma and also got £15million annually for being president of Dynamo Brest in Belarus and his coaching spells in the Middle East.

However, the Napoli legend still died with less than £75,000 in his bank accounts and Argentine journalist Ventura who has been close pals with Maradona confirmed on TV program Fantino a la Trade:

"He died poor and had almost nothing left in his account.
"Maradona's fortunes was lavished because of his pierced hands and largely stolen in order to trick him and leave him with nothing. All they had to do was ask and he gave."

Angelo Pisani, a lawyer who helped Maradona to fight long-standing tax evasion charges in Italy, also claimed that Maradona had very little money.

He was once hit with a £40million tax bill from Italian authorities, which he denied owing.

It is understood that Maradona had around £33m in unpaid taxes before his death and he once handed over his earrings to settle a debt with the taxman.

However, Maradona has an entire building in Buenos Aires with several apartments, six supercars, land and jewelry.

The Argentine legend also has investments in Cuba, football schools in China and image rights that could fetch him a fortune, reports in Italy claims.

Reports claim his estate could be potentially worth up to £150m and everyone in Argentina wants a piece of it.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Peter Shilton is still pained from the event of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico when Argentina knocked out England in the quarter-finals.

The legendary goalkeeper claims Diego Maradona had greatness in him but sadly no sportsmanship when speaking of his death.

Maradona scored both goals in the last eight including the Hand of God goal that led Argentina in lifting their second world title.
