Police rescue 19 of 22 abducted victims in Abuja after gun duel with hoodlums

- Hoodlums had kidnapped no fewer than 22 persons in Abuja

- Days after their kidnap, 19 out of 22 of the victims have gained their freedom after a rescue mission

- The remaining three are still being held captive but efforts are underway to free them

The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has rescued 19 out of 22 persons kidnapped by hoodlums on Pei-Leilei road along the Kwali axis in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Channels TV reports that the FCT commissioner of police, Yusuf Mariam, said the rescue operation was carried out in a fierce gun duel.

Legit.ng gathered that he said the rescue operation was carried out on Wednesday, November 25, following a distress call from the residents.

Yusuf added that effort was being made to rescue the remaining three victims in the custody of the hoodlums who escaped into the bordering forest.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits kidnapped three people in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the FCT Police Command and seen by Legit.ng on Thursday, November 26.

The statement, however, revealed that police operatives thwarted the attempted abduction of 19 persons, but three people were unfortunate to have been taken away by the gunmen.

In another report, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central senatorial district at the red chamber, Mallam Uba Sani, attributed the rate of bandit attacks and kidnappings in the state to the deplorable condition of federal roads, especially on Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria roads.

The senator wondered why the works ministry under Babatunde Fashola insists on awarding many road projects at the same time despite dwindling resources.
