PDP is in disarray, Nigeria needs formidable opposition, APC mocks ex-ruling party amid defection

Following the defection of some of the bigwigs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on other political parties in Nigeria to form a formidable opposition to the ruling party.

Channels TV reports that the APC said the PDP has lost its position as the main opposition in Nigeria.

Legit.ng gathered that the APC deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, made the call in a statement on Thursday, November 26, in Abuja.

He said it was not a surprise that those he described as progressive-minded members of the PDP were defecting from the opposition party to the ruling party.

Nabena said:

“For a party unable to run its secretariat, pay staff salaries, and its leadership grappling with a crisis of confidence, it will be unfair to expect its progressive-minded members to remain in the PDP which has failed woefully as the supposed ‘main’ opposition party in Nigeria."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that there was an emerging crisis in the Lagos state chapter of the APC as one of the party's chieftains, Olajide Adeniran, accused the state government of victimisation.

It was reported that Adeniran during a press conference on Wednesday, November 25, announced his bid to contest the state governorship election and unseat the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In another report, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu urged the people of the southeast region to forget their agitations for restructuring of the country and the quest for the presidency in 2023.

Kalu who is a former governor of Abia state made this known in Umuahia, the state capital, when he paid a condolence visit to a state lawmaker, Chukwudi Apugo, who lost his mother recently.
