Zinedine Zidane has idolised Diego Maradona claiming that the footballing icon's exploits at Mexico 86' World Cup is still engrained in his memory, Goal.
Speaking during the post-match conference after Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan in their Group B Champions League clash at the San Siro.
The Frenchman was quick to roll back the years when he watched Maradona play at football's biggest showpiece as a teenager.
"It's an enormous loss for the world of football. I have him engrained in my head when I was 14 years old because of what he did at the 1986 World Cup.
"In the end, at least I was lucky enough to have the chance to tell him in person about that 1986 World Cup because every kid always wants to say what they think, and I had the chance to tell him that he was a hell of a player.
"So that's my best memory. This is sad news, we send our best wishes to his family. Rest in peace."
Maradona displayed the greatest individual performance at a World Cup event scoring five goals and providing four assists for the Albiceleste.
