Troops stop ransom payment to Boko Haram insurgents

The Nigerian military has recorded another victory over Boko Haram insurgents in a village on the outskirts of Borno state capital, Maiduguri

The acting director of defence media operations, Brig Gen Benard Onyeuko, said the troops of 251 Task Force Battalion attacked suspected members of the Boko Haram sect in Molai, This Day reported.

He stated that the military operation was carried out following intelligence reports that relations of some kidnapped persons were trying to pay a ransom of N2 million to the terrorists.

The statement stated:

“In a swift reaction, the gallant troops engaged the Boko Haram criminals forcing them to abort the collection of the payment as well as abandon their captives, in the aftermath of the decisive encounter."

Onyeuko said after the offensive, one Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist was neutralised while others escaped with gunshot wounds. He disclosed that an AK 47 rifle and a motorcycle were recovered

The military said the kidnap victims, including two women and three children, were all rescued unhurt.

Meanwhile, a major onslaught has been launched against the Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state after men of the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole inflicted heavy casualties on them.

According to a statement released by Major-General John Enenche, the defence media operations coordinator, on Monday, November 16, the terrorists were neutralised, thanks to multiple airstrikes executed by the Nigerian troops.

Enenche revealed that the attack, which was carried out on Saturday, November 14, in the Gobara and the Sambisa ‘S’ region, saw the logistics of terrorists also destroyed.
