- Mikel Arteta is counting his losses after leaving Mesut Ozil out of his squad
- The German star will not be involved in Arteta's squad unless the U23s
- Arsenal are currently in 11th position on the Premier League table
Mikel Arteta has admitted that his decision not to include Mesut Ozil in Arsenal's campaign this season hurts him.
The German midfielder was not included in the Gunners squad for the Premier League and the Europa League as he will only be eligible to play for the U23s.
The 31-year-old who is currently the highest-paid player with a massive £350,000-per-week wages last played for Arteta's squad in March.
However, the Spanish coach has taken the blame for excluding the 2006 World Cup winner from his squad in the opening four months of the new season.
He told beIN SPORTS:
"I'm hurt because I don't like any player in my squad not to have the possibility to participate, or to compete, for me it is really sad because I don't think anybody deserves that.
"But at the end of the day I'm sitting here to make decisions, to make the decisions that, in my opinion, are the best for the football club. And this is what I have to do"
Arteta who has started the new campaign on a shaky note admitted that he is open to resolving the issue with Ozil.
The Gunners Arsenal once topped the league in the opening weeks are now languishing in 11th spot on the table and will host Leeds United when action resumes after the international break.
"The moment that you lose football matches his name is going to come up and when you win, it won't."
Arteta was then asked if Ozil will return to the team and the former Man City assistant boss said:
"Well everybody can and I think since I arrived here you see where some players have started and where they are right now, their careers are completely changed.
"With Mesut at the moment, with the squad list, obviously he cannot be involved. I try to be as clear as possible with him."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Dani Ceballos has denied claims that himself and Arsenal teammate David Luiz came to blows on their training ground at the Colney complex.
The Athletic reported that the Spanish midfielder was hit in the face by the Brazilian at the end of a practice match.
It is understood that there was a late challenge from the Real Madrid loanee which angered Luiz as he struck him in the nose and Ceballos tumbled to the ground.
