- The APC is still celebrating gaining a new member from the PDP
- Following Governor Umahi "not so surprising" defection, President Buhari hosted governors belonging to the ruling party
- Buhari had earlier commended Umahi, saying his defection is based on principle, not coercion from anyone
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday night, November 19, hosted Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, to a dinner at the State House.
Legit.ng reports that other dignitaries at the event included governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among the governors in attendance were Mai Mala Buni, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, Abubakar Bagudu and Abubakar Bello.
This development is coming after Umahi officially joined the ruling party. The governor was welcomed officially at an event held in Ebonyi state with APC governors in attendance.
Umahi, who is the chairman of the Southeast Governors' Forum (SGF) parted ways with the opposition block in what has left a huge vacuum in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) considering the fact that he was a leading light for the party.
He has since been attacked by top members of his former party including Nyesom Wike who said he defected to pursue a presidential ambition.
Legit.ng recalls that the Nigerian leader in reaction to Umahi's defection commended the Ebonyi state governor for taking a bold move that was mainly driven by principles.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the governor of Ebonyi addressed allegations made by the opposition after he defected from the PDP.
Speaking as a guest on Arise TV from Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital, Engineer Umahi described as "absolute rubbish" the claim that PDP made him what he is.
The governor, who has since become the darling bride of the APC household after his defection, stated that he was convinced to join the APC train due to the "father" in President Muhammadu Buhari.
In an earlier report, Umar Sani, a former senior special assistant to vice president Namadi Sambo on media and publicity, said Umahi's defection did not come as a surprise to many Nigerians. In an interview with Legit.ng, he said:
"However, it has not escaped the eagle eyes of the party supporters across the nation that he drinks and smells APC. His defection did not come as a surprise to many including my good-self."
