- Governor Yahaya Bello has spoken on the chances of the ruling APC in the 2023 elections and beyond
- The Kogi state governor boasted that the APC will rule beyond 2023
- Bello highlighted some key reasons why he believed the opposition PDP cannot take over from his party yet
Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will rule beyond 2023.
The governor gave some reasons why he believed his party will retain the presidential seat in 2023 when he appeared as a guest on Channels TV on Thursday, November 19.
Bello said the APC-led administration's developmental projects in the country is one of the reasons the party will continue to be the leading one.
The Kogi state governor also said the APC government is securing the nation just as he added that Nigerians are happy with the administration's programmes.
Governor Bello also believed that the country's lead opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), does not have the political strength to take over in 2023.
He boasted that "the PDP is gone" and cannot challenge the ruling party in the next elections.
“APC is a party of the people, for the grassroots. You can see the exodus. I don’t know what is giving them (PDP) that confidence.
“Even though power belongs to God and God gives power to who He wills, at this stage, I can assure you that PDP is gone and is going and going.”
Making reference to the recent defection of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state from the PDP to the APC, Governor Bello said nine other governors from the opposition party will soon join the ruling party.
He said Governor Umahi’s defection was a testimony of the progress in the ruling party.
Meanwhile, Governor Umahi has claimed that many politicians in Ebonyi state, including federal lawmakers, will soon dump the PDP for the APC.
The governor made the comment on Thursday, November 19 as he formally joined the ruling APC at a reception organised for him in Abakaliti, the Ebonyi state capital.
Umahi was received into the APC by the party's national caretaker chairman and Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni.
