Another aide resigns from Umahi’s cabinet as governor defects to APC

Governor David Umahi’s special assistant on internal security and public utilities (Urban), Egwu Chidiebere, has resigned his appointment.

Premium Times reported that the governor’s aide resigned the same day Umahi formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chidiebere said the irreconcilable ideological differences and personal considerations in the state prompted his resignation.

He was reported to have submitted his letter of resignation to the office of the secretary to the state government, Kenneth Ugbala.

The letter partly read:

“I hereby respectfully resign my appointment as the SA on Internal Security and Public Utilities (Urban) with effect from today, 19th day of November 2020."

Chidiebere’s resignation followed that of Lazarus Ogbee, the commissioner on inter-governmental affairs, who resigned recently.

Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state has said that more governors of the PDP were making plans to join the APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The defection of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state to APC has sent a crucial message to all political actors in the southeast that the party may find it difficult to win the region during the next election.

PM News reports that Bello stated this on Thursday, November 19, while reacting to the defection of Governor Umahi to APC.

In another news, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has again hit hard at his counterpart from Ebonyi state, David Umahi, over his defection from the PDP to the ruling APC.
