- Victor Osimhen suffered an injury during Nigeria vs Sierra Leone clash in Benin
- The 21-year-old has returned to his club Napoli who have confirmed his status
- Osimhen is said to be undergoing physiotherapy following a dislocated shoulder
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen who was injured during Nigeria’s first leg AFCON qualifying clash against Sierra Leone is confirmed to have dislocated his shoulder.
The status was confirmed after the 21-year-old underwent tests upon his return to his club as he could not feature in the return leg.
He had to be stretchered off as he screamed in pain after suffering a wrist injury during Nigeria's 4-4 against Sierra Leone in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Napoli striker who scored Nigeria’s second goal in the game had to be replaced by Paul Onuachu in the 78th minute of the game after picking up what looks like a terrible injury.
He immediately departed for Italy as he returned to his base to undergo further tests.
“Victor Osimhen underwent tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome, the instrumental tests and the clinical evaluation that showed results of dislocation anterior to the right shoulder.
“The player has already started physiotherapy and will be evaluated daily,” reads a statement on the club website as cited in Complete Sports.
Osimhen who joined Napoli during the summer transfer window has so far scored two goals for Genaro Gatusso’s side. He is likely to miss Sunday’s Serie A clash against AC Milan.
Three-time African champions Super Eagles were once again forced to a draw by Sierra Leone in their 2022 African Cup of Nations second leg qualifier in Freetown.
Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up to take Osimhen’s position in the attack in a match with ended goalless.
The Leicester City forward also had some good chances in the second half but he failed to convert them.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu will not be rushed back to action when club football resumes this weekend says Bordeaux boss Jean-Louis Gasset.
The 23-year-old has been out of action since mid-October after picking up a hamstring injury during Nigeria's 1-0 defeat to Algeria at the Jacques Lemans Arena in Austria.
He lasted 50 minutes on the pitch before he was replaced by Moses Simon for the remainder of the encounter.
Kalu played no part in the Super Eagles test game with Tunisia and the AFCON 2022 qualifiers against Sierra Leone this month.
