- Governor Hope Uzodinma is happy that his Ebonyi state counterpart, Dave Umahi has joined him in the APC
- With Umahi's defection to the APC, the ruling party now has two state governors in the southeast region of Nigeria
- Governor Uzodinma said he is happy that south states are joining the party in control of the federal government
Governor Hope Uzodinma has congratulated his Ebonyi counterpart, Engineer Dave Umahi for joining him in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Imo state governor says he is happy that another southeast state has now been connected to the party in control of the federal government.
He made the comments in a statement he posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, November 17.
Part of the statement read:
“I wish to most heartily welcome my brother and friend, His Excellency, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, the executive governor of Ebonyi state to the forum of the Progressives, the All Progressives Congress (APC)
“The news that Governor Dave Umahi has formally joined me in the APC came to me, particularly, as one to cheer as a result of my former status as the only APC governor in the southeast. Now, I have a brother governor in the same political family.
“Recall that on my assumption of office as the governor of Imo state, I assured that I am on a mission of political evangelism, to convert the entire southeast to the family progressives. I am happy that today, with Ebonyi in the kitty, the journey is only but for a little while.
“I am also happy that our people are heeding the clarion call on the political need for our people to be hooked onto the national political grid in order to attract meaningful developments to the region.”
Meanwhile, the Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora (AESID) has reacted to the defection of Umahi to the APC.
The group made its stance known on the trending issue via a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, November 18 by its president, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu.
The AESID said the defection of Umahi didn't come as a surprise, stressing that the governor is known for political inconsistency since his foray into politics.
The group stated that the political life of the governor has become a domesticated case of a study in downright betrayal beginning from his days in the Dr Ogbonnaya Onu campaign Directorate in 1999.
