- Governor Dave Umahi's defection to the All Progressives Congress is still generating reactions
- A group in Ebonyi state says the ruling party has acquired baggage by accepting Umahi into its fold
- The Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora accused the governor of political inconsistency
The Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora (AESID) has reacted to the defection of Governor David Umahi to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group made its stance known on the trending issue via a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, November 18 by its president, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu.
The AESID said the defection of Umahi didn't come as a surprise, stressing that the governor is known for political inconsistency since his foray into politics.
The group stated that the political life of the governor has become a domesticated case of a study in downright betrayal beginning from his days in the Dr Ogbonnaya Onu campaign Directorate in 1999.
It accused the governor of manipulated his way to power through lies, deceits, blackmails and popular opium of power shift.
Part of the statement read:
“One thing is that these attributes and qualities particularly his sheepish behaviour of damaging any dish he is served foods with are only very consistent to the personality and character of Umahi who has always been a crass opportunist.
“His erstwhile boss and indeed, all those who worked for and with him are now telling pathetic tales of how he treats anyone who takes risks for him like a piece of a dirty handkerchief.”
The group further alleged that the governor is joining the APC to ensure his activities in government are not scrutinised by anti-graft agencies after he leaves government.
“It would therefore be a huge shame if the ruling APC government which claims to have made the fight against corruption a cardinal policy does not shove Umahi off their broom and hand him over for thorough prosecution.
“Ebonyians cannot wait for the days of reckoning and accountability on their common patrimony which have since been left only in the hands of Umahi and his family.
“Lastly, the APC national leadership should be aware that they are purchasing for themselves a piece of disastrous baggage of controversies, deceits and distractions and must therefore be advised to tread cautiously.”
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a state caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party in Ebonyi state in line with the provisions of its constitution.
This follows the dissolution of the Ebonyi state exco by the NWC earlier after Governor Dave Umahi defected to the APC.
