- The APC is excited about the defection of Governor Dave Umahi to its fold
- The ruling party took to Twitter to celebrate its newest high-level member
- The Ebonyi state governor is the second APC governor from the southeast
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially recognised the defection of Ebonyi state governor, Engineer Dave Umahi.
The party welcomed the Ebonyi governor into the party declaring that the state is now connected to the center.
In a tweet on Tuesday, November 17, the APC said the governor has returned home.
Recall that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting when rumours of Umahi leaving for APC thickened.
The meeting has been slated for Thursday, November 19 at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.
Similarly, the Board of Trustees (BoT), the highest advisory organ of the party, was also scheduled to meet on Wednesday, November 18 at the same venue on the matter.
Umahi seems to have taken the decision to join the ruling party even before the top PDP officials met on the issue.
Meanwhile, just days after Governor Umahi informed the PDP of his plan to leave for the APC, one of his commissioners resigned.
Ebonyi commissioner for intergovernmental affairs, Lazarus Ogbee, announced his resignation in a letter to the governor.
In a related development, APC secretary in Ebonyi, John Okochi, has declared that the state chapter of the party is anticipating the defection of the governor to its fold.
Okochi also said the Ebonyi APC is also aware that discussions are already taking place between Umahi and the party's leadership at the national level.
Some Nigerians have been commenting on Governor Umahi's defection to the APC on social media.
