- Southeast PDP members have not requested for 2020 presidential ticket, the party's board of trustee chairman, Walid Jubrin disclosed
- According to Jubrin, he does not see anyone opposing the request
- The chairman said what is paramount is the unity of the party, without which there will be no talk of presidential ticket
As the race for 2023 presidential election steadily builds up, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee (BoT), Senator Walid Jubrin, has revealed that no official request for the ticket has been made.
According to him, no official request from the PDP in the southeast region for the presidential ticket of the party has been received, This Day reports.
He said though the zoning of offices within the party is a procedural issue, nobody would have objected if the southeast caucus of the party asked that the presidential ticket be zoned to it.
“What we have heard is merely side talks. There is no official request from the South-east zone that the office of the presidential candidate should come from the zone. What we are reading is just newspaper report.... I don’t see anyone or opposing it or denying the zone such request.”
Going further, he said the most important thing in the party is to ensure its unity.
According to him, if there is no unity within the party, nobody will talk of the presidential ticket.
"There must be unity first. You don’t count the chicken before the eggs are hatched. Unity of the PDP is the main thing now.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that PDP's caucus in Oyo warned the former governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose to drop his power tussle with Governor Seyi Makinde.
The PDP reminded Fayose that going by the party's constitution, Governor Makinde, as the highest-ranking elected officer of the PDP in the region, is the head in the southwest, The Nation reports.
The PDP caucus in the state said it is needless for the former Ekiti governor to keep dragging issues with Makinde because while in office, he enjoyed the same power and the privileges that come with it.
Earlier, the former Ekiti governor revealed that he would like to become Nigeria's president some day.
Fayose also debunked claims that he nurses a dream to get the post of a senator, and lamented that many of his friends and allies abandoned him after he lost the governorship poll.
