Garba Lawal who played for the Super Eagles to the highest level has explained that Gernot Rohr is not to be blamed for the draw against Sierra Leone but the players themselves.

Nigerian football lovers are still angry with how Super Eagles allowed Sierra Leone to come back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 in AFCON 2022 qualifying match played in Benin, Edo state.

Super Eagles went into this encounter with their heads up having recorded wins in their last two games and are topping their group.

They took 4-1 lead to the dressing room against Sierra Leone before the Stars came back from behind to stun Gernot Rohr and his wards.

Many have been blaming the German coach for the disappointing result, but Garba Lawal explained that the players were responsible for what happened while speaking with GOAL.

“Only the players can explain what happened even the coach cannot tell you this because they are the actors.
“The coach has no blame. The players know there were a lot of things they did wrong. They knew they have complete control of the game and suddenly something went wrong, of course, it is the players that will take responsibilities for that.''

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Super Eagles legend Daniel Amokachi has backed Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to break the record of late Nigerian star Rashidi Yekini who was superb during his active playing time.

During his playing time in the national team and all the clubs he played for, Rashidi Yekini was one of the brilliant strikers in the world considering the number of goals he scored.

Yekini was also the first Nigerian player to score in a World Cup game when the West African nation appeared at the 1994 edition in the United States.

Between 1984 to 1998, Rashidi Yekini scored 37 goals for the Super Eagles in 58 games and the record has not been broken since he died eight years ago.
