- Nigeria vs Sierra Leone has been etched into the history books of the Leone Stars
- Despite Nigeria leading 4-0 in the first half, the visitors drew level in dramatic fashion
- Former Super Eagles star Kanu Nwankwo has urged the Super Eagles to learn from their mistakes
Kanu Nwankwo has stated that the present crop of players that make up the Super Eagles must learn from their 4-4 draw at home to the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.
The Super Eagles were 4-0 ahead as early as the 29th minute of the fixture, but they slipped up to allow their fellow West Africans reply all goals to return home with a point as it ended 4-4.
And Nigerians were left stunned following the result and have taken to social media to criticise the entire squad with many calling for the sack of team coach Gernot Rohr.
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was seen in a footage apologising to Nigerians, promising that the team will do better in the return leg slated for Tuesday, November 17.
In his reaction, Kanu who had 87 caps for the Super Eagles and scored 12 goals in the process says it was not the result Nigerians wanted.
The 44-year-old further added that such situation happens in football as he urged the players to learn from their mistakes and then move on.
He wrote on his Twitter handle:
“Well done boys not the result we wanted 4-4 but that’s football we learn and move on.
“We get ready for the second match and put all right. Wish you all the best.”
The Eagles still lead the group on seven points after recording two wins and a draw while Sierra Leone are third on two points.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Sierra Leone superstar Kei Kamara has described his team's remarkable 4-4 draw against Nigeria as historic.
Speaking exclusively to Legit.ng after the game, Kei Kamara who had shared a video of him complaining about the mattress and pillow in his Benin hotel room, was happy with his team's performance.
According to the Minnesota United star, Sierra Leone have written their name in the history books.
"I don't have feelings personally right now because it is unbelievable. This is Nigeria we are talking about, the Super Eagles, they call them that for a reason. They are one of the best teams in Africa, we are just Sierra Leone."
