Governor Ganduje's senior special assistant on youth development, Murtala Gwarmai, , has “empowered” some youth with donkeys.
According to The Cable, he reportedly said the beneficiaries requested the donkeys to aid them in transporting sand, gravel, and blocks so as to boost their business.
However, the aide also distributed other items like motorcycles, bicycles, building blocks, roofing sheets, among others.
Over 40 beneficiaries were reported to have benefited from the empowerment. He also promised to sustain the programme.
However, Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the news.
Emeka Uraih wrote
"What a joke! I am fine with him empowering his people with donkeys if that is what they want and they are happy with it but the rest of the country should not be subjected to this kind of insanity."
"Just imagine, most of them drive around in exotic cars but end up giving their fellow citizen donkey as a means of what??, some times I wonder if we need to be re colonized again."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Kano State Hisbah Board has destroyed 1,975,000 bottles of beer, worth over N200 million, confiscated within Kano metropolis, Daily Trust reported.
The state's governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was represented by his deputy Nasiru Gawuna during the destruction of the confiscated bottles of beer which took place at Kalebawa in Dawakin Tofa local government area.
Explaining the reason behind the development, the Kano state governor said consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants that can distort mental capability is forbidden in Islam.
In another report, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) recently spoke on the death sentence passed on a Kano singer, Yahaya Aminu Sharif who was convicted of blasphemy by a Sharia court.
Adeolu Samuel Adeyemo, the Kano state chairman of CAN said the religious body was not in objection to the ruling because it is according to the position of Islam.
The CAN chairman made the statement when reacting to the verdict of the Sharia court which has generated heated discussion among Nigerians.
