- Ronald Koeman is beginning to settle with work at Spanish club Barcelona
- The Dutch manager was brought in during the summer as a replacement for Quique Setien
- Koeman has stated that he is very pleased with Pedri’s performance in the squad
Ronald Koeman has showered encomiums on Barcelona star Pedri stating that the 17-year-old attacking-midfielder has really impressed him since he became the club manager.
Koeman was appointed by the Catalan club after a poor 2019/2020 season following the departure of embattled Quique Setien.
Since the tactician’s arrival at the Spanish club, several players have left while fresh legs are being injected into the senior team including youth player Ansu Fati.
Barcelona boast a number of talented players including Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann, but Koeman has identified Pedri as the player that has impressed him so far.
He told Mundo Deportivo, as cited in Soccer Laduma:
"Especially given that I didn't know him that well, the player who's surprised me the most is Pedri,
"I knew Barca had signed him from Las Palmas and I had seen a tape of him, but I don't think anyone expected the rapidity of his development since joining – playing and training with the best players at Barca aged just 17, delivering such high levels of performance."
It was gathered that Pedri has been heavily linked away from the Catalan club since his arrival from Las Palmas, however, it looks like he has become an important part of Koeman’s squad.
He has started against the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus this season, and has found the back of the net on two occasions across all platforms.
Pedri also put up a brilliant show with Lionel Messi before the international break helping his side to a 5-2 win over stubborn Real Betis.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi is reportedly planning to sign a new Barcelona deal but will consider five major things before finally deciding.
The 33-year-old stunned the entire football world in August after handing the Catalan club his transfer request despite having one more season left on his deal with them.
He was denied the chance to leave as the Blaugrana board insisted any club that wanted his signature must meet the six-time Ballon d'Or's release clause.
After a few back and forth between Messi and the club, the Argentine withdrew his demand to leave and agreed to stay for one more season.
