The petition itself is aptly titled, "Warner Bros, Bring Johnny Depp back as Gellert Grindelwald!!!'. Warner Brothers owns the studio with the rights to the Harry Potter film franchise and, by extension, the Fantastic Beasts movies.

'Gellert Grindelwald' is the character played by Depp in the first two instalments and the one from which he was asked to resign.

The petition's aims, as written by its administrator, include:

"Johnny Depp was asked by Warner Bros to resign and leave his role of Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts 3 movie. This happened because of the verdict of his case with 'The Sun' tabloid that was completely unfair. We want him back! Warner Bros should listen to the public or we will boycott the movie!!!"
