- Yusuf Yazici has been rated to become the ‘next Mesut Ozil’ and Arsenal are on his trail
- The Turkish midfielder has found the back of the net seven times this season for Lille
- Arsenal are desperate in replacing ousted midfielder Ozil who is in the final year of his contract
Yusuf Yazici could be heading to Arsenal as reports have it that the Lille midfielder is being monitored by the Gunners following his impressive show in Europe lately.
The 23-year-old who is rated ‘next Mesut Ozil’ is being trailed by Mikel Arteta’s men as the club continues in their bid to replace the ousted German midfielder Ozil.
So far this season, Yazici has scored seven goals in just eight games for Lille which includes two sensational hat tricks in the Europa League.
It explains his level of personal improvement having managed just one goal in 25 matches in the entire 2019/2020 season.
Before his move to the French club, the former Trabzonspor star featured in 100 matches in the Turkish league where he scored 22 goals.
He has also made 24 appearances for the Turkish national football team and many have tipped him to become a natural successor for German icon Mesut Ozil who has been left out of the Gunners’ squad this season.
It was also gathered that former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger made attempt to sign the youngster, but failed with £14.5million bid.
And with embattled Ozil heading into the final year of his contract, it is believed that the German will finally depart the Emirates’ club.
Arsenal are still said to be interested in Yazici and Lille boss Christophe Galtier has praised the midfielder for his dazzling performance so far this season.
He said, as cited in SunSport:
“Yazici brings something different to our play with his left foot, his shot and his vision. When he is between the lines, he has his vision and the quality of his left foot.
“He’s obsessed with the goal. It’s important for him and the team, I’m very happy for him.
“Recently, he has not been happy, and I can tell you that he is happy in the dressing room.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Mikel Arteta has taken responsibility for Arsenal's 3-0 humbling defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday night, November 8, at the Emirates.
The Gunners came into the match on the backdrop of their 1-0 encouraging win over Man United at Old Trafford in the Premier League. However, they failed to build on the win against a resurgent Villa side who completely outplayed them.
