- There have been allegations that dead people in Philadelphia voted during the US elections
- In fact, these unsubstantiated claims by some people have gone viral on social media
- However, the election commissioner in the state, Al Schmidt, has denied the reports, referring to it as funny and void of evidence
The election commissioner for Philadelphia, Al Schmidt, has debunked claims that dead persons voted during the just-concluded United States (US) presidential election.
Schmidt noted that after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that there was no evidence to back up the allegations that deceased persons took part in the poll after their demise as claimed, NBC News reports.
"...when we took a break between everything else that we're doing, we looked it up, each one of them to see what their vote history was. Not a single one of them voted in Philadelphia after they died."
The commissioner, therefore, described the report that has been spread on social media as ridiculous.
Schmidt, who is Republican co-chair of the three-man panel in charge of the poll spoke with journalists recently on the issue.

He had earlier reacted to the claims saying he had seen some completely ridiculous allegations on social media, which according to him, have no basis in fact.
Meanwhile, there were fears that Joe Biden, the projected president-elect of the United States (US), might not be the eventual winner of the just-concluded presidential election in America.
One of those who raised the concerns is the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. In his opinion on Saturday, November 7, President Obrador said that it is still too early to congratulate Biden.
The Mexican leader noted that except all legal issues related to the poll are resolved, he will not give a congratulatory handshake to Biden.
