- Paul Pogba cannot be compared to the likes of Gerard, Lampard and Toure
- Liverpool legend Carragher made the comment after saying Man United should sell the Frenchman
- Pogba has a deal with the Red Devils until the summer of 2022
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Paul Pogba cannot be compared to midfielders like Steven Gerrard, Yaya Toure, or Frank Lampard.
The Frenchman has been heavily scrutinised for his inconsistencies since his return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016.
However, the 42-year-old believes Manchester United should cash in on the 2018 FIFA World Cup before it becomes too late.
Pogba's current deal with the Red Devils expires in less than two years and he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Juventus are also interested in re-signing the 27-year-old about four years after leaving the Allianz Stadium.
Although the midfielder's national team manager Didier Deschamps admitted that he is not happy with the current situation at his present club as reported by Goal.
Carragher, having shared dressing rooms with Gerrard at the club level and Lampard at the national level believes United should allow the Frenchman to leave now.
The current TV pundit also played against Yaya Toure during his reign at Manchester City, and he feels Pogba can't compare to the trio. Carragher told talkSPORT:
"Would I pick him in the Manchester United team? No, I wouldn’t. He’s a huge name, he’s come for a huge transfer fee, but I don’t think he’s a great player.
“People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.
“When you’re that man who’s seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it’s too much pressure to put on one man, but that’s what we were told was coming.
“It just hasn’t happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I’d be looking to move him on.”
Pogba has scored just once in 11 appearances across competitions so far this campaign - though, he had COVID-19 setbacks earlier in the season.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Paul Pogba's dream of playing for Real Madrid is edging closer as Man United is set to drop their asking price to £53million.
The France international has come under huge criticisms in the new campaign and has not been a regular in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting XI.
According to Spanish news media outlet, AS quoted FourFourTwo that the Red Devils are now ready to lower their price for the 27-year-old.
