Troops of Operation Accord recover arms from gun dealers in Sokoto, Zamfara

The Nigerian Army (NA) on Monday, November 9, recorded massive success against banditry in major parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states.

According to the coordinator of media operations of Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche, troops of Operation Accord recovered a lot of arms and ammunition from gun runners in the states.

Enenche said that this is part of the NA's efforts to completely clean up banditry and all forms of violent crimes not only in the northern region, but throughout the country.

The media boss of the DHQ noted that the soldiers acted on credible intelligence to arrest at least two of the bandits: Abubakar Mohammed and Ansi Usman Janare.

He revealed that the troops recovered one Light Machine Gun, 4 AK47 rifle magazines, 586 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 100 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the fight against the menace and atrocities of banditry in the north recorded a massive victory as the Nigerian troop neutralised four bandits terrorising Kaduna state.

The defence headquarters made this known on Thursday, September 3, in a statement issued by Enenche. Enenche said the operation was carried out by the Nigerian troops of Operation Accord at Jeka Da Rabi area along Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

According to him, the operation was coordinated on Tuesday, September 2, after reports on the movement of bandits from Kachia area.

He further stated that the operation was based on intelligence gathering, adding that the troops laid an ambush against the bandits and engaged them with superior power.

Enenche said:

"The gallant troops made contact with the bandits and engaged them with superior firepower thereby neutralizing 4 while others escaped with gunshots wounds.
"Troops also recovered one AK 47 rifle and 5 rounds of 9mm with a magazine. Presently, the gallant troops have continued to dominate the general area with aggressive patrols in search of the fleeing bandits."
