President Buhari calls on traditional rulers to discuss with youths

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked traditional rulers in the country to help in conveying the government's message to youths in the country.

Buhari made the statement on Thursday, November 5, when he held a meeting with some traditional rulers from different parts of the country in Abuja, Vanguard reported.

The president urged traditional rulers nationwide to assist his administration in pacifying the protesting youths.

He said the government has heard the cries of protesting youths and is attending to their demands.

According to a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the president described the role of the traditional rulers as guardians of traditional values and culture.

He said senior government officials led by his chief of staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, would visit various parts of the country to engage with traditional rulers.

Buhari said:

“I want to once again thank you for the role you all have played to calm down our youth with wisdom and authority. By instilling hope and keeping the peace, you have rendered the country great service.”

Meanwhile, the Lagos state police command said on Thursday, November 5 that it will resist any planned protest, procession, or gathering in Lagos state.

The police made the statement in reaction to the planned continuation of the #EndSARS protest by the Youth Rights Campaign and other youth groups in Lagos state.

The police said security threats and threats to public peace might be triggered by protests.

In another report, Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace the community policing strategy in the country.

Channels TV reports that the police boss described community policing as the best strategy to combat crime in Nigeria.

Legit.ng gathered that the IGP made this known in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, during a one-day working visit to the state.
