EndSARS: IGP Adamu sends crucial message to Nigerians on community policing

Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace the community policing strategy in the country.
Channels TV reports that the police boss described community policing as the best strategy to combat crime in Nigeria.
Legit.ng gathered that the IGP made this known in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, during a one-day working visit to the state to access the level of damage done by hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protest.

According to him, traditional rulers and stakeholders have a role to play in ensuring the success of the community policing strategy.
Adamu stated that in a few weeks from now, youths would be recruited into the police force from ward levels to work with traditional rulers in a bid to secure every community in Nigeria.
The police chief, however, condemned the carnage and destruction occasioned by hoodlums who hid under the #EndSARS demonstration.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the IGP blamed the violence erupted after the #EndSARS protests on fake news.
It was reported that Adamu said social media was awash with fake news which according to him triggered the violence.
The IGP made the statement in Lagos on Tuesday, November 3, a day after he attended the northern governors' forum meeting which came out with a communique for social media to be censored in Nigeria.

In another report, the spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said the protest by youths across the country against harassment by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was due to lack of federalism in Nigeria.
The spokesman of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation made the disclosure while speaking on Channels Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, on Thursday, November 5.
Odumakin also said youths from the south participated more in the #EndSARS protest than their northern counterparts because most of them were victims.
