The Arewa Citizens for Good Governance (ACGG) has commended the Nigerian army’s Operation sahel sanity for rescuing nursing mothers and children kidnapped by bandits in Diskuru village in Faskari local government area of Katsina state.
The group said it is impressed by the successes recorded by the army, especially as the victims captured by the terrorist group were freed without harm.
In a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Aminu Abubakar, ACGG said even though five of the bandits that abducted the people were killed during the operation, the good news is that the victims have been rescued.
Abubakar said the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, deserves adulation for his steadfastness in providing the kind of leadership that allows soldiers of the army to carry out their duties effectively.
Also commending the dedication of the troops to the war against banditry and insurgency, Abubakar noted that more would be achieved from the army should citizens give them the needed support.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Oyo state government had confirmed the arrest of some soldiers who flogged a woman for allegedly dressing indecently.
One of the soldiers identified as Adesina was seen flogging the woman by the roadside while his colleague used a clipper to shave off the hair of some male youths for inappropriate hairstyles.
According to the commandant of operation burst in Oyo, Captain Usolo, the soldiers are currently in detention following their actions.
It was also gathered that the military swung into action against the erring soldiers after the commissioner for youth and sports development, Seun Fakorede, reached out to the commandant on the issue.
The commissioner also apologised to the victims of the soldiers' misconduct and their families.
