Kenneth Omeruo has denied a report that he is fit for the AFCON 2021 qualifying cracker against Sierra Leone which has its first leg scheduled for November 13 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin.

In the report titled ‘Rohr receives Omeruo boost as he resumes training with Leganes’, the medium suggested that the defender who picked up a hamstring injury in Leganes 1 – 0 win over Mirandes on Sunday, November 1, has returned to training at the club.

The report further alleged that the 27-year-old has resumed training on Tuesday, November 3, ahead of Nigeria’s all-important AFCON qualifier.

In a swift, Omeruo took time to address the report on his social media handle, branding it as ‘misleading’.

He wrote:

“Please get your facts right before publishing articles to mislead people. Don’t do that with my name. I am out for two weeks and not less.”

With the player confirming he will be out for a minimum of two weeks, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is said to be considering Kelechi Nwakali to replace him.

Nwakali could not make the initial 24-man list for the doubleheader against Sierra Leone, but the Huesca midfielder made the standby list and could be called-up.

And this is not the first time a Nigerian player will be taking-up a local news medium.

Victor Osimhen once apologised over the choice of words he used while denying quotes attributed to him as cited in a popular Nigerian medium claiming the player hoped to emulate the legendary Diego Maradona at Napoli.

A report was reproduced by a Nigerian medium with quotes attributed to Osimhen saying: “I am proud to join a club, who have seen great players like Maradona, Higuain and Cavani."

In a swift, the Napoli player took to social media to deny the report branding it as ‘copy-paste’, ‘lies’ – but later apologised about using such words.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigeria's technical adviser Gernot Rohr has called up Paul Onuachu as a replacement for injured Moses Simon for their AFCON qualifiers.

The Nantes forward became doubtful for the doubleheader after picking up a knock in his side's 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint Germain.

He only lasted 25 minutes on the pitch before leaving the pitch for Kader Bamba for the remainder of the Ligue 1 cracker.
