Eddie Newton: Chelsea legend fired as Trabzonspor manager

- Trabzonspor have endured a disappointing run of results that has seen them suffer four defeats in seven of their opening matches of the new season

- The poor form has them occupying 19th place on the Super Lig standings with just five points

- Eddie Newton joined Trabzonspor as assistant manager back in February before he was promoted to head coach after he led the club to Turkish Cup glory

- Before then, he formed part of Chelsea's coaching staff but chose to dump his former side to further his coaching career

Chelsea legend Eddie Newton has been relieved of his duties as Trabzonspor manager.

Newton's sacking from the role came after leading the Turkish club to a poor start to the new season.

The Super Lig side has recorded just one win and two draws in seven of their league matches, with four others ending in defeat.

The disappointing run of form now has Trabzonspor sitting 19th on the standings, leaving the club with no choice but to show Newton the door.

In a club statement announcing the development, Trabzonspor announced the decision was reached by mutual consent.

Newton was appointed Trabzonspor manager after he led the to the Turkish Cup glory at the end of last season.

Trabzonspor's Friday, October 30, 4-3 defeat to Kasimpasa was Newton's last match in charge of the side.

The 48-year-old initially joined the Trabzon-based outfit as an assistant boss before he was promoted as caretaker manager and eventually club boss.

Previously, he had a coaching role with former club Chelsea, but left the position in February to further is career with the Turkish giants.

He made more than 200 appearances for the Blues during his playing career before he went into football management.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how big Premier League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are reportedly in fresh to sign Nigerian teenage striker Michael Olise.

The 18-year-old has attracted the big clubs due to his blistering form for Sky Bet Championship side Reading, Complete Sports reports.

Olise who had his youth stints at Chelsea, Manchester City and Reading has scored 2 goals in his 10 appearances for the Royals this season so far.

It was gathered that Everton, Monaco and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with the talented youngster.
