He said if Nigeria is restructured, state governments would take responsibility for their failings because most of the problems citizens face daily can be resolved at the state level.

He called on the National Assembly committee on constitutional review to consider the 2018 recommendations of the APC committee on restructuring.

El-Rufai said:

“We, therefore, have no excuse not to seize this moment and do the heavy lifting for our country and our people. It is in our hands to make the structures, laws and constitutional arrangements in our country conducive to modern governance that will ensure our nation thrives in the 21st century.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has backed founder and general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Adejare Adeboye on restructuring, saying Nigeria is becoming a failed state.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the NEF spokesperson, made the position of the forum known while speaking on a live television programme in Lagos on Tuesday, October 6.
