Parenting: We have failed our children, says finance minister

As discipline continue to plument in homes and societies, Zainab Ahmed, Nigeria's minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, has urged parents to instill family values in their children.

According to the minister, this will in saving Nigeria from degeneration.

Ahmed made the call on Saturday, October 31, in Kaduna during a stakeholders’ engagement with 77 district heads, religious and community leaders from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna state.

She said:

“We are calling the attention of parents that we have failed our children in the sense that the kind of values we use to have is no more.

In another development, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Saturday, October 31 called for the review of the extant definition of federal character in the Nigerian constitution.

Gbajabiamila made the call while delivering his remarks at the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) national strategy meeting and retreat on “Rethinking National Youth Development” held in Abuja.

The event was in partnership with Yiaga Africa's Centre For Legislative Engagement, Westminister Foundation for Democracy, and Action Aid.
