PDP's Jegede finally heads to tribunal, challenges Akeredolu's victory

- Eyitayo Jegede is not willing to accept his defeat in the Ondo gubernatorial election and has taken action

- INEC, after collating results, declared Governor Akeredolu as the winner of the poll

- In his petition, Jegede who dragged his fellow contestant before a tribunal claimed that the election was marred by irregularities

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, has dragged the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, before the Ondo state election petition tribunal.

The Nation reports that Governor Akeredolu won in 15 out of the 18 local government areas to defeat Jegede with a wide margin at the polls.

However, the PDP candidate is not buying this result and is challenging Akeredolu's victory.

Legit.ng gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and the deputy governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa were included as defendants in the petition.

The report noted that among the grounds on which the election is being challenged is that it was marred by irregularities and pockets of violence and intimidation.

Jegede also faulted the emergence of Akeredolu during the party’s primaries. He asking the tribunal to declare him the winner of the election.

Recall that after Akeredolu was declared winner, he made sure to taunt the PDP and its candidate.

Basking in the euphoria of his governorship victory he declared that Ondo state is not like the neighbouring Edo state where the PDP defeated the APC.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the security personnel received applause for their roles before, during, and after the Edo governorship election.

Legit.ng reported that the commendation was made by the coalition of domestic accredited observers for the election.

In a related report, President Muhammadu Buhari urged APC leaders to manage the affairs of the party with a stronger sense of commitment in order for it to gain more electoral victories at the polls.

The president made the comment on Tuesday, October 13, in Abuja when he received the re-elected governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu.

The Ondo governor was accompanied by his counterparts from Lagos, Kebbi, Ekiti, Jigawa, and his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa.
