Soldiers battle bandits in Zamfara state

- A gunfight between soldiers and bandits has been reported in Gidan Goga community of Zamfara state

- The incident was confirmed by a former commissioner for education, Ibrahim Danmalikin

- Danmalikin said some people died following the attack by bandits on the community

Soldiers have engaged in a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in the Gidan Goga community of Maradun local government area in Zamfara state.

According to Daily Trust, the battle between troops and the bandits erupted when the hoodlums attacked the community on Thursday, October 29.

A former commissioner for education, Ibrahim Danmalikin who also hails from the community confirmed the incident.

He said the bandits attacked the community around 1pm, forcing several residents to flee for safety.

Danmalikin disclosed that the soldiers who learned about the attack arrived at the scene before the bandits could flee.

He said the encounter led to a gun battle between the two groups.

Danmalikin said:

“I can’t tell you the precise number of people who died in the attack now, but I can tell you that many of the residents have fled the community."

Meanwhile, the land and air components of Operation Thunder Strike have neutralised scores of armed bandits in a joint offensive operation.

The move was aimed at clearing identified bandits’ camps in the Yadi and Kufai Shantu areas of Giwa local government area of Kaduna state.

Legit.ng gathered that the operation was executed on Saturday, October 24 on the heels of human intelligence reports.

In another report, President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, October 23, met with the governor of Zamfara state, Dr Bello Matawalle, at the State House.

According to President Buhari's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, the meeting was held to discuss attacks by bandits in the state. Zamfara state is known as one of the hot spots for bandits.
